We had a gate change at the last minute, which happened to include an entire terminal change too. I saw this scene on the SkyTram and pulled out my camera just in time to snap the picture. Taking this picture, though, reminded of two important lessons:
Always change your ISO and White Balance settings back to a "normal" setting before putting your camera away after a shoot (like an all-purpose ISO of 200 or 400 with Auto WB set). Because I had to take this shot so quickly, I didn't even think to check my ISO or WB, which were set for extremely low-light shooting in a very tungsten-lit room from the night before. Learning to remember to change my settings back before I put my camera away is much easier to remember than to change them when you have to shoot on the fly.
Shoot in Raw. Shooting in manual mode let me know real quick that my ISO was way too high, but because the shot was seconds away from disappearing, I didn't even look at the back of the camera to see how the picture came out. When I looked later the picture was extremely blue from the WB mix up. Thankfully, I had shot in camera raw and was able to instantly correct the white balance.
This shot is nothing spectacular, but I like it. Most of all, though, I really learned from taking it.
