While my wife and I were in Northern California last week we got to watch her cousin, Jared Van Bebber, practice on his track. Jared has been racing professionally for around a year now and is doing quite well in his circuit.

Motorcross photography really isn't my specialty, so it was definitely a challenge trying to get pictures of him racing around the track. Because I really wanted to convey the sense of extremism in the sport, I shot with a slower shutter so that I could blur the background. Because of the bumpiness of the track and the fairly unpredictable motion of the bike, it was nearly impossible to get him perfectly in focus while panning, but I still like the results. You can really feel the speed of the bike and the uncertainty of the ride here.
